Local Services Ads for tree services
Local Services Ads are the listings at the very top of Google with a verification badge, and you pay per lead rather than per click. For some tree companies they are the best money on the platform. For others they are a distraction. Here is how to tell which you are.
How they differ from ordinary Google Ads
With ordinary search ads you choose keywords, write ads and pay each time someone clicks. With Local Services Ads you do none of that. You pick the job types you want and the areas you serve, Google decides when to show you, and you pay when a customer contacts you through the ad.
That simplicity is the appeal and the limit. You give up almost all control over which searches you appear for.
The verification comes first
Before you can run, Google checks the business. Depending on your country and category, that typically includes a background check, licence verification where your area requires one, and proof of insurance. It takes time, so start it before you need the leads.
What decides where you show
Google says Local Services ranking depends on things like your distance to the customer, your reviews, how responsive you are to enquiries, your business hours, and your budget. Responsiveness is the one owners overlook: missed calls and slow replies count against you.
Not every lead is billable
If a lead is clearly not for you (a job type you do not offer, outside your area, spam), you can dispute it and Google may credit it. Check your leads regularly and dispute the ones that qualify; nobody else will.
When they are worth it
They tend to work best when your reviews are strong, you answer the phone reliably, and your market has plenty of searches. They are weaker when a few competitors have far more reviews than you, because the top spots follow reviews, or when you cannot answer calls in working hours.
They also sit alongside ordinary search ads rather than replacing them. Our Google Ads page covers how we decide between them for a given service area.
Questions
How much do Local Services Ads cost for a tree service?
You set a budget and pay per lead. The price per lead varies by market and job type, and Google shows the current estimate for your area when you set the ads up. We do not quote a national figure because a figure that describes every market describes none of them.
Can I run Local Services Ads and normal Google Ads together?
Yes. They appear in different places and many tree companies run both.
Why am I not getting Local Services leads?
Usually one of: too few reviews compared with nearby competitors, missed calls hurting your responsiveness, a budget too low for the area, or job types and service areas set too narrowly.
