How to choose a tree service marketing agency

There are plenty of agencies that say they specialise in tree service companies, including us. Specialising is necessary and not enough. These are the questions that separate an agency that will make you money from one that will send you reports.

How do you count a lead?

Ask exactly what the number in their report means. A click on a phone number is not a call. A call that lasted four seconds is not a lead. A form submitted twice by the same person is one lead. Google's own conversion tracking also misses calls and forms, so a report that simply repeats the platform's figure can be wrong in either direction.

The answer you want is specific: what is counted, how duplicates are removed, and where the figures were corrected by hand.

Will you report on booked jobs, not just leads?

The outcome you are paying for is work, not enquiries. An agency that only ever reports leads and cost per lead is reporting the part it controls. Ask whether they will follow leads through to estimates and booked jobs by source, and what they need from you to do it.

Who owns the ad accounts, the website and the data?

You should. Your Google Ads and Meta accounts, your Google Business Profile and your website should be in your name with the agency given access, so that leaving does not mean starting from zero.

What happens when a month is bad?

Every account has bad months. Ask how they will explain one. A good answer distinguishes season (fewer people searching) from something the agency should fix (creative that wore out, a budget that underspent, a tracking fault).

Can I speak to a current client?

Case studies are chosen to impress. A conversation with a current client, ideally one in a market like yours, tells you how the agency behaves on an ordinary Tuesday.

    How we answer these ourselves

We count leads by hand where the platforms under-report and say so in the report, compare channels on the same basis, and built our own tree service CRM, Arb Astra, so enquiries can be followed through to jobs. You can see how we work on our About page and the results we are willing to put our name to on our case studies page.

    Questions

How much does a tree service marketing agency cost?

Agencies charge a management fee on top of your ad spend, and sometimes separate fees for websites or SEO. Compare total cost against booked jobs, not the fee alone.

Should I sign a long contract?

Be wary of long lock-ins before an agency has shown results. Ask what notice period applies and what you keep if you leave.
