Google Business Profile suspended: what a tree company should do

By Luke Ahern, founder of Ads Astra Labs · Updated November 5, 2026

For most tree companies the Google Business Profile brings in more calls than the website. When it disappears, the phone goes quiet within days. The good news is that a suspended or lost profile can usually be recovered, reviews included, if you do the right things in the right order and avoid the one mistake that makes it much harder.

First, don't make a new profile

The instinct is to create a fresh listing and start again. Don't. A second profile for the same business is a duplicate under Google's rules, it starts with zero reviews, and it can complicate getting the original back. Your reviews belong to the original profile, and recovering that one is almost always worth the wait.

We have been through this with a client whose profile had 276 reviews. The fix was to work through Google Business Profile support until the original's reviews were restored, not to rebuild from nothing.

    Work out what actually happened

A suspended profile shows a notice in the Business Profile manager. A profile you simply can't get into (an old employee or a past agency owns it) is an access problem, not a suspension, and is fixed by requesting ownership. A profile that vanished from Maps but still shows in your account may be under review after an edit. Each has a different fix, so check which one you have before doing anything.

Common reasons tree services get suspended

Most suspensions come from a short list: keywords added to the business name ("Smith Tree Removal Best Prices"), an address you don't really operate from, such as a mailbox or a virtual office, showing an address when you're a service-area business that goes to customers, a sudden batch of edits, or a second profile for the same company.

Our Google Business Profile guide covers how each of these should be set up.

    Fix the cause, then appeal

Correct whatever broke the rules before you appeal: the real registered business name, the right address or a hidden address with a service area, and one profile only. Then submit the reinstatement request from the suspension notice.

Have evidence ready. Google commonly asks for things like a business license or registration, a utility bill or similar document showing the name and address, photos of your marked trucks or signage, and sometimes a short video showing the business is real. Clear, matching documents move faster than a long explanation.

If you're stuck, use Business Profile support

Appeals can take days or weeks. If the form is going nowhere, Google Business Profile support can open a case. Keep every case number, reply in the same thread, and be specific: the profile's name, its Maps link, and exactly what you're asking for. When a profile has been merged or duplicated, ask for the reviews on the original to be restored to the profile you now manage.

How to avoid it next time

    1

Use your real business name, with no keywords or towns added.

    2

If you go to your customers, hide your address and set a service area.

    3

Keep one profile per business, owned by an account the owner controls.

    4

Make edits a few at a time, not all at once.

    5

Add managers instead of sharing the owner's login, and remove people who leave.

    FAQ

    Questions tree service owners ask

Will I lose my reviews if my Google Business Profile is suspended?

Not usually. Reviews stay attached to the original profile and normally come back when it's reinstated. Making a new profile is what really loses them.

How long does a Google Business Profile reinstatement take?

Anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Fixing the cause first and sending clear, matching documents is the fastest route.

Can an agency get my profile back for me?

An agency can prepare the evidence and work the support case, but Google needs to hear from someone with authority over the business. If you want help with it, call (873) 660-0174.
